USS PIEDMONT was the third DIXIE - class destroyer tender and the first ship in the Navy named after the region which lies just east of the Appalachian Mountains in Pennsylvania, Virginia and the Carolinas. Decommissioned on September 30, 1982, the PIEDMONT was transferred to Turkey on October 18, 1982, where she was recommissioned as TCG DERYA (A 576). On August 6, 1987, the ship was officially purchased by Turkey and stricken from the US Navy list. TCG DERYA served until 1994, when she was decommissioned and sold for scrapping.
